My Mornings

Each morning, Daina and I (we share a huge bed, did I mention that?) set our alarms for about 7:07. The alarms make noise (hers is a song, mine is a woman's voice saying "Seven-oh-Seven A.M. Sixty-Five Degrees Farenheit"), we turn them off and stay in bed for at least another half-hour.

Then, Daina gets up and walks to the other house on our compound to take a hot shower. I am too lazy to walk to the other house, so I choose to use our shower.
Now, our shower does not have hot water...and we can't figure out why--Not even Ayub (pronounced I-yoob) can figure it out.

So, instead of using the actual shower head, I just "shower" under this faucet below.
For the last two weeks, I have been washing my hair, upside-down, with shampoo only and then washing my body bit-by-bit. This morning, I didn't even think it was cold, I've grown so used to it. And, I'm clean...I'd rather be clean with a freezing shower than dirty. (Oh, twice I've washed my hair in the kitchen sink--which is warmer than our bathroom--because we've run out of water in the tank on our side of the house).

Just thought you'd like to know a little more about the goings-on outside of the ministry we're doing. I hope you are reading this with the tone of humor that I am intending...this is, in no way, meant to be a post of complaint...

Hi adorable...

Well, I can tell you that I totally relate to your shower stories and because of my recent personal experience with similar conditions...

The electric teakettle in the kitchen (I know you have one because I lived in that house last summer) is an amazingly efficient device. In my house when my "instant" heat shower head is not working (about half the time), I go to the kitchen, boil up a kettle or two of water and put them in a plastic basin (the bathtub of choice for most of Africa...about a dollar at Transmatt) and lug that to my bathroom. You just add some a bit of cold (to keep from scalding your skin off ....learned that one the hard way!) and you have a delightful warm "shower". Of course, it isn't enough...but to at least have a warm rinse....PRICELESS!

Or....wait till December when the weather is so hot all the time that you will CRAVE a cold shower.

Love you and I promise you with all my heart that I would forego my hot water here in the states to be there with you guys again!
